Traditional Family Home in Coquitlam
After touring the 2011 PNE Prize Home and admiring the traditional style and generous use of mouldings used throughout, this couple contacted me to assist them with the design of their new home.
The abundant use of mouldings and trim can be found throughout this craftsman style home, including 7″ baseboards and oversized 5′ wainscoting in the dining room. Instead of white, the trim package was painted a deep creamy beige, Benjamin Moore AF85 Frappe, to give the home a warm hug!
Although the design elements were kept very traditional, every convenience was afforded to the daily lives of the homeowners. The kitchen includes two dishwashers, a microwave drawer, 36” gas range, 2 wall ovens and an integrated fridge. There are 2 laundry rooms, one off the kitchen on the main floor and another located in the upper hall. There is an entertainment room in the basement, complete with pool and poker tables, reclining seats and a large screen TV.
Custom details abound throughout. Within easy reach from the farm style family dining table, a custom hutch was built to house plates, cutlery and serving dishes. A special cabinet was created for paper towels, tucked just beside the kitchen sink. The ensuite floor was treated with small mosaic tiles inset between larger tiles to create a unique, subtle pattern.
Traditional and classic, this home will surely pass the test of time.
