I actually started out my career as a painter. Working in the industry has given me insight into many a trade secret. I use these cleaning trade secrets all the time to make my life easier and save time and money. I am going to share a few with you now.
By keeping a few items on hand in my arsenal of tricks, I can make quick work of any mishaps that arise. They are all equally important, so there isn’t going to be a number one spot. Like horses from the same stable in a race, they act as a team to ensure you will cross that finish line ahead of the rest!
All these items are readily available at your local hardware store.
Trade Secret Scratch Remover – This gem is a lifesaver—even the name implies you are on to something great! From the moment I discovered it, I have introduced it to all my clients. It covers nicks and scratches that come up on any wood surface.
From furniture, cabinets and floors, all you do is wipe it on, let it absorb into the surface, then wipe off the excess. The scratch magically disappears. It comes in two colours: one for light wood, one for dark wood.
Itsy Bitsy Paint Brush – This one comes in handy when you have a tiny paint touch up to do. You can also use a Q-Tip in a pinch, but I recommend you invest a few dollars and keep a small brush on hand.
Microfibre Cloth – This one is a MUST HAVE!! I do not know what I would do without my microfiber cloths. Maybe it should be in the number one spot! I refer to these as ‘magic cloths’. You don’t need any soap or detergent when you use them.
Just get them wet and they’ll do the hard work. Surprisingly, with very little scrubbing, they will get most surfaces clean with just water. They even take mustard stains out of a white cotton blouse! There are many brands out there, but the best one I have found so far is sold by Norwex (independent sales).
Folex Carpet Spot Remover – OK, if the microfiber cloth doesn’t quite cut it on it’s own, I add in this product for a double whammy. I use it in tandem with the microfiber cloth to remove really nasty spots on my carpets and upholstery.
ZIP-IT – Not your lip or fly, this one’s for your drains! The main source of clogged drains is the build-up of hair and guck. This little tool will unclog your sink, shower and bathtub drains in seconds – with no harsh chemicals (and no plumber). Simply insert the tool into the drain and pull out the clog. Easy peasy!
There, you have it. I have a few more up my sleeve, but will save those for another time.
