Design Tip: Make Space Behind Bathroom Walls

How many times have you wished you had more storage in your bathroom? Did you know that you can create more storage space by installing a recessed medicine cabinet…even of you can’t open up the wall?

If you live in a house, opening up a wall is an easy task. But, if you live in an apartment, condo or townhouse, with walls adjoining another unit, it is not possible. To solve this problem, you can build out the wall behind the vanity to create a cavity to house the recessed medicine cabinet.

If your bathroom vanity is no more than 20 inches deep, you may have room to add this feature. You only need to build the wall out by 4 inches, but that little bit gives you SO much!!

In the “after” photo shown, we not only added a recessed medicine cabinet, we also installed an “over john” cabinet above the toilet (yes, that is what they are referred to!!).
