Design Tip: Matchy Matchy Door Hardware

An often overlooked detail in many homes is the passage door hardware – the doors that open to different rooms of your home. In the ’80s the trend was for shiny brass knobs. During the late ’90s into the early 2000’s, the trend turned to brushed nickel or oil-rubbed bronze. I tend to use matte black in a lot of my projects.

Matching Door Hardware

Whether you prefer brushed nickel, bronze, brass, black, whatever, one rule never changes…the hinges must match the colour of the door handle. I hate seeing someone replace the door hardware, only to overlook the hinges! It looks like a mismatched pair of socks, or a shirt buttoned up unevenly!!
